BRAMBLEBERRY COTTAGE QUILTS

NEEDLE IN HAND...
Here are some of my favourite places to be.

Check out the best B&B in Durham Region, hosted by Mike and Jo Whiston.  Lavender Cottage also hosts Quilting Workshops and Quilt Retreats in a restored Quebec Log Cabin amidst Jos wonderful gardens.  The food, accommodations and workshops are first rate.

Five minutes from Lavender Cottage in Uxbridge is Quilters Cupboard, a Top Ten Quilt Sampler Shop and simply THE best quilt shop ever.  Drop in and visit Sue and her Staff, have a cup of tea, and peruse the shops offerings.  There are quilts, books, patterns, tools and lots of fabric.  Do not forget to say I said Hello!!

Rouge Valley Quilters Guild was the first Guild I joined before making my first quilt.  Almost 30 years later, I still hate to miss a single meeting.  We are having a Quilt Show this fall, October 15 & 16 2011.  If you are in the area drop by.  You will not be disappointed.  Our claim to fame?  Aside from the quilts, the Guild Cafe serves a great lunch.

I joined York Heritage Quilters Guild a few years ago.  This is the most amazing group of quilters and home to some top award winners in both Canada and the U.S.  York Heritage Guild is also having a not-to-be-missed Quilt Show Nov. 11, 12 & 13 2011.  Please join us.

CreativFestival a conference for all things quilting, sewing, knitting, beading, scrapbooking in short, creative, in Toronto, happens twice a year, once in the Fall, and once in the Spring.  I am thrilled to be teaching at Fall Festival again this year.  Watch for Conference Newsletter updates for what and when.

NEED A QUILT P.D.Q.?
THIS IS IT!
MAYBE YOU CAN MAKE A QUILT IN A DAY!!!!

Supply List

Sewing machine in good working order, basic sewing kit, rotary cutting equipment, sewing thread, scissors

Fabric Requirement

I like to use strips all from the same colour family, say, all blue, or all browns, but scrappy works, too.

Straight strips all cut @ the same width i.e.:  all cut @ 2in., or 2 1/4 in., or 2 1/2 in.  You will need the equivalent of 2 1/2 yd. to make a lap size.  Strips can be any length, from about 10 in. to the full width of fabric.  Mine your scrap collection!

Instructions

1.Join ALL of the strips, yes, ALL, end to end.  I like to use a diagonal join. You will end up with a VERY LONG single strip.

2. Match the bottom end to the top end, of the very long strip, right sides together.

3.Sew along the full long length.  Because you have matched bottom to top you will be sewing 1/2 the original length.

4.Cut across the bottom end, open the strip up and match the bottom end to the top end, right sides together.

5.Sew along the full length.  This time you will be sewing only 1/4 of the original length.

6.Cut the bottom end, open the strips, match the bottom to the top, right sides together, stitch.

7.Continue until you have enough for a lap, or two crib size, or several placemats, etc.
It will not take long!!!

8.Press all of the seams in one direction.

9.Clean cut the ends.

10.Add borders if you wish, or, just sandwich and quilt.

Voila!  A quilt (top at least) in a day!

Send me a photo when you are done.
